UNPAID INTERNSHIP/VOLUNTEER VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The Sierra Leone Court Monitoring Programme (SLCMP) is currently recruiting person(s) interested in monitoring international criminal trial at The Hague . On Monday June 4, 2007 , the trial of former President of Liberia Charles Gangay Taylor will start at The Hague . For details on the case, please visit: http://www.sc-sl.org/Taylor.html

 

The SLCMP is an independent initiative by Sierra Leonean civil society to monitor criminal trials. Since its establishment in 2004, it has been monitoring criminal trials at the UN backed Special Court for Sierra Leone , the domestic court and follow-up issues on the Sierra Leone Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The SLCMP is committed to promoting judicial accountability in post-conflict Sierra Leone . For details about SLCMP, please visit: www.slcmp.org

 

The SLCMP is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified persons.

 

 

Application Deadline:
Applications are accepted at any time. Two people will be recruited at any one time throughout the trial period. However, the first set will be recruited immediately.

 

Stipend/Compensation:
None

 

 

Job Description

 

·           Monitor trials on a regular basis;

·           Produce daily briefing of the proceedings to the Programme Director;

·           Produce at least one article for SLCMP monthly newsletter. The article should be based on an issue(s) arising from the proceedings;

·           And any other duty assigned to you by the Progarmme Director

 

 

Requirements

·           University graduate or relevant experience, legal/human rights background an asset

·           Fluent in Written and Spoken English

·           Strong writing and analytical skills

 

Each Application Must Include:

·           Detailed Curriculum Vitae with covering letter and references

·           Writing Sample of not more than 500 words
